Ontario East Back in Trade Show Business
at SIAL Canada, in Montreal
Last week, the Ontario East team exhibited at the SIAL Canada Show, our first live promotional event in more than two years.
SIAL Canada is an international trade show that promotes food and related products and Ontario East showcased local products and demonstrated the ability to produce a diverse array of food and beverage products in eastern Ontario.
The participants report a very busy event with many new contacts and investment leads identified.
One of the highlights was an invitation to a reception by the Poland in Canada delegation where Ontario East team members connected with Dariusz Wisniewski, Consul General and Michal Pszczolkowski, Vice Consul, Economic Affairs, pictured above with with Chris King, President, Ontario East and Vicki Bristow-Ferguson, Food & Beverage Sector Lead.

Arnprior pharmaceutical plant sells to cosmetics giant

A pharmaceutical plant in Arnprior with a long history is writing a new chapter. Pillar5 Pharma recently sold to Anjac Health & Beauty, a cosmetics conglomerate of 14 companies based in France.
“This is a good news story for Arnprior, Pillar5 and their employees,” said Mayor Walter Stack, reading from a prepared statement during the April 11 regular meeting of council. “Pillar5 has recently (March 14) been sold to a company from France.”
New jobs training program launched for Peterborough region

Pathways to Prosperity aims to guide unemployed, underemployed workers to better paying jobs through training to improve their job readiness and skill sets.
A new program to help Peterborough area workers find training to pursue better paying employment opportunities was launched Tuesday by officials.
The Ontario government is providing $2,714,847 in funding over 12 months to the Peterborough and the Kawarthas Economic Development agency to develop and administer the new Pathways to Prosperity program, which aims to offer training for people to pursue in-demand and better-paying jobs in the city and county.
“This is something that came together because of ingenuity, entrepreneurial spirit and the desire to be able to do more, to do better for our community and to put our community in a better position,” said Peterborough-Kawartha MPP Dave Smith.
