Ontario East Quarterly Meeting December 2nd Round-Up
Ontario East was pleased to host a sold out Quarterly Networking Meeting in Belleville on December 2nd, where we were welcomed by Mayor Neil Ellis and enjoyed a variety of updates from our partners including the latest news from the Bay of Quinte Region, Invest in Canada activities in securing foreign direct investment and, in particular, opportunities in the fast-growing EV market, new immigration programs from the Toronto Business Development Corporation with focus on eastern Ontario, Community Futures Eastern Ontario regional programming and how BDC offers support to economic development in the region.
All presentations are available on our website. Be sure to check them out HERE.
We also appreciated that Bay of Quinte MPP and Minister of Energy Todd Smith provided video greetings prior to his announcement in Clarington regarding a grid scale modular reactor that will positively impact job and supply chain opportunities in eastern Ontario.

President Chris King and Executive Director Jay Amer represented Ontario East at EDCO's Queen's Park event on November 30 and were joined by fellow Ontario East members Shelley Hirstwood, Past-President, Ontario East representing Kingston Economic Development and Bay of Quinte's Vicki Bristow Ferguson representing the Ontario Food Cluster where she is the co-chair and lead for Ontario East.
Economic developers and local elected officials had an opportunity to connect with many MPP's to talk about promoting economic development in Ontario. Congratulations to EDCO Executive Director Heather Lalonde who is departing the organization after 25 years to pursue a new venture!
Remembering Brian Grattan
Ontario East is saddened by the news that member Brian Grattan passed away in late November.
Brian was the economic development officer in Quinte West, and previously worked in economic development in his home community, the Township of Havelock-Belmont-Methuen, where he remained an active community volunteer involved with the local Lions Club and youth sports.
He was a strong supporter of Ontario East and will be missed by all who knew him. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.
