Ontario East 2023 AGM and Board of Directors Update
The Ontario East Economic Development Commission (Ontario East) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on February 8, 2023 in Toronto at the Ontario Investment and Trade Centre (OITC). The meeting was opened by guest speaker Trevor Dauphinee, CEO, Invest Ontario who updated attendees on Invest Ontario activities and the importance of partnerships with regional organizations like Ontario East.
The following Directors and Officers were approved by the Members and the Board of Directors, respectively:
President: Stephen Paul, Director, Community Development, Lennox & Addington County
Vice-President/Treasurer: TJ Flynn, Investment Attraction Officer, Northumberland County
Past-President: Chris King, CEO, Quinte Economic Development Commission
Secretary: Jay Amer, Director, Ontario East Economic Development Commission
Director: Kelley Lemenchick, Community Development Officer/EODP Coordinator, Renfrew County Community Economic Development Corporation
Director: Abdul Razak Jendi, Investment Manager, Kingston Economic Development

President Stephen Paul thanked outgoing President Chris King and Past-President Shelley Hirstwood for their contributions and support of Ontario East. Shelley's term has ended, and Chris will remain on the board as Past-President as a member of the executive committee.
Welch LLP were appointed as auditors for the next fiscal year.

Magna investments in Ontario to add up to 100 jobs in Belleville

Plans to enhance a major company's auto-parts operations in the province include a major investment in Belleville.
Magna International has announced they are investing 471 million dollars at a number of facilities, resulting in an increase of more than 1,000 new jobs...
A $35 million investment will be made in Magna’s lighting division in Belleville, creating up to 100 jobs.
Canopy Growth Corp. will lay off 800 workers as part of a transformation plan that will see the company close its hallmark 1 Hershey facility in Smiths Falls and consolidate some of its cultivation operations.
The Smiths Falls-based cannabis company said Thursday that the layoff will affect 35 per cent of its workforce, with 40 per cent of the cuts happening immediately and the remainder taking place over the next several months.

POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Director of Tourism, the Economic Development Officer works as part of a high-energy team, responding to lead and advancement inquiries.
Playing a critical supporting role to attract new tourism business investment to the region, this position also works with existing local tourism businesses to identify opportunities for growth as well as proactively identify challenges that may cause a business to consider relocation.
The Economic Development Officer works with key partners across the business, academic, sustainable and innovative community to create long-term growth and prosperity for the region.
This position provides one-on-one, on-site consultation with businesses to explore matters such as marketing opportunities, operational and financing challenges, human resources issues, and strategic planning.
Community Economic Development (CED) is defined as the process of fostering an environment that results in the creation of wealth and well-being for the benefit of the community.
