As we look forward to returning to the Nav Centre in Cornwall September 14-16, 2022, Ontario East Municipal Conference (OEMC) planning is progressing well! We have had great interest from many returning and new sponsors and exhibitors. We also have an impressive line-up of expert speakers on important economic, workforce, community and municipal development issues ready to go.
We apologize for the delay in opening registration as we await the official transfer of ownership of the Nav Centre to the Devcore Group on June 30, 2022. Our team is working closely with the current and future operators to finalize details and hope to open up registration and room reservations in early July. We know there is pent up demand to get signed up and we appreciate your patience. It will be worth the wait! Boyd Reports on Comparative Operating Costs Updated
Ontario East, with support from the Government of Canada's CanExports - Community Investment Program, recently commissioned The Boyd Group Location Consultants to update Comparative Operating Cost Reports in key economic sectors for eastern Ontario including: Advanced Manufacturing, Distribution Warehousing and Food and Beverage.
The reports compare business operating costs in similar US markets and confirm that Ontario East communities continue to offer significant cost advantages for companies considering establishing a presence or expanding into the region. The Ontario East Regional Marketing Committee incorporates this important information in a variety of international investment attraction marketing activities including trade shows, investment missions and proactive lead generation strategies.
Ontario East is enjoying a flurry of activity in new business growth and expansion resulting in available employment lands being purchased and developed as municipalities intended.
Progressive municipalities looking to attract new business and jobs implement long term strategies to ensure there are available lands to accommodate growth and investing in "shovel ready" employment lands is a priority for communities in our region to meet growing demand.
The Trillium Network For Advanced Manufacturing has issued a report "Ontario's Industrial Land Shortage: Why it's a Problem and What We Can Do About It" . Although eastern Ontario maintains a good supply of employment it is always prudent to raise awareness of pending economic development issues across the province to our members. We are also pleased to welcome the Trillium Network for Advanced Manufacturing to the Ontario East Economic Development Commission as Associate Members.
