Ontario East Municipal Conference 2024 Wraps Up

 

Thank you to all sponsors, delegates and speakers for helping to make the recent OEMC a resounding success!  

If you participated please be sure to complete your evaluation survey emailed out to delegates after the conference last week. Although the informal feedback has been very positive, we are always looking on how to improve and meet the needs of our delegates.

Session presentations and photos will be posted to the OEMC website in the near future.

Karen Fischer Awarded

“Economic Development Officer of the Year”

during the Ontario East Municipal Conference in Ottawa

[OTTAWA, ONTARIO] The Ontario East Economic Development Commission (Ontario East) recognized Karen Fischer, Advisor, Economic and Business, Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness as the “Ontario East EDO of the Year” during the Ontario East Municipal Conference (OEMC) hosted at the Ottawa Conference and Event Centre September 11-13, 2024.

The award is sponsored by ResearchFDI, one of Canada’s leading investment attraction agencies, founded by Bruce Takefman, who was a member of the awards selection committee.

Northumberland's Dan Borowec Awarded

Honorary Life Membership

 

During the recent Ontario East Municipal Conference in Ottawa an Honorary Life Membership (HLM) was bestowed upon long time Ontario East member and former board director and chair Dan Borowec, Northumberland County's Director of Economic Development, Planning and Strategic Initiatives.

The honour was presented by Ontario East board chair Stephen Paul, Director of Community & Development Services, Lennox & Addington County along with Jennifer Moore, CAO of Northumberland County.

An HLM is awarded to members who are retiring and have contributed significantly to the success of the Ontario East Economic Development Commision.

Only three HLM's have been awarded previously in the history of the organization and these include Doug and Shirley Ellis, founders and inaugural organizers of the OEMC, and Dave Paul who served as Brockville's Director of Economic Development for over 25 years.

Dan's HLM becomes effective upon his official retirement from full time work later this year.

Ontario East Workforce Partners Support Project

Secures Funding

 

Thanks to support from the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development, the Ontario East Economic Development Commission will deliver the Ontario East Workforce Partners Support Project (OE-WPSP).

This initiative, funded through the Skills Development Fund (SDF) brings together all organizations involved in supporting workforce development in eastern Ontario to help connect people with jobs and jobs with people.
